For all those people who are interested in the Eurovision Song Contest, here are some details about the 2009 contest in the UK.

After many years coming near bottom, and in 2008, joint last place, the UK entry will be selected differently. A new show, Your Country Needs You is a show in 6 singers or groups compete to represent the UK in a weekly knockout competition. The winner will then sing a song written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The final was on Saturday 31 January 2009.

Presented by Graham Norton, who will also commentate for the UK in the Eurovision Final.

Week 1 : Saturday 10 January

All the contestant started the show singing Abba's "Waterloo"

Here are the contestants songs.

2 Mark Wasting my time by Will Young
3 Charlotte Because of You by Kelly Clarkson
4 Damien How am I supposed to live without you by Michael Bolton
5 The Twins you've got a friend by Carole King
6 Jade Deja Vu by Beyonce

The girls also sang "One rocking role too many"
The boys also sang "No Matter What"

Special Guest Performance is Lemar singing "Weight of the world"

The bottom 2 are Damien and Charlotte. Andrew Lloyd Webber saves Charlotte, so Damien is out of the contest.


Week 2 : Saturday 17 January

All the contestant started the show singing "Save your kisses for me"

Here are the contestants songs.

3 Jade The voice within by Christina Aguilera
4 Charlotte Rain on your parade by Duffy
5 Mark Me and Mrs Jones by Billy Paul

The boys also sang "Nothing going to stop us now"
The girls also sang "Rhythm of the night"
 

Special Guest Performance is "UP" sung by the Saturdays.

The bottom 2 are Emperors of Soul and Charlotte. Andrew Lloyd Webber saves ,Emperors of Soul  so Charlotte is out of the contest.


Week 3 : Saturday 24 January

All the contestant started the show singing "Boom Bang a Bang"

The girls also sang "I'll stand by you"

Special Guest Performance is "Breathe Slow" sung by Alisha Dixon .

The bottom 2 are Emperors of Soul and Jade. Andrew Lloyd Webber saves Jade so  Emperors of Soul are out of the contest.


Week 4 : Saturday 31 January

Here are the contestants songs. All sang 3 songs, of which the second song was the Eurovision Entry

Third place was Mark
Second place was the Twins

The winner was Jade. The UK Entry song is called "It's my time"


The UK will go straight to the Eurovision Final on Saturday 16 May 2009.
