Eurovision Song Contest 2004 Details Page

For all those people who are interested in the Eurovision Song Contest, here are some details for 2004.

The 2004 Eurovision Song Contest was held at the Abdi Ipekci Stadium in Istanbul which can hold 9,000 seats. It was relocated from the Mydonose Showland in Istanbul. Ticket sales went on sale on Monday 16 February 2004 and priced up to €100. Perhaps Friday the 13th had something do with the snow which delayed ticket sales from Friday 13 February 2004! The presenters are Meltem Cumbul and Korhan Abay.

This is a summary of all the current news out there. There are other sites bigger than this one with more news, but I like to keep it simple.

Big Support for the Ukraine. Their odds are around 5-1 slashed from 33-1. They have to qualify first!

The order of the voting in the final is based on ISO codes, eg GB : Great Britain, DE : Germany, FR : France, ES : Spain etc.

For the first time in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest, the contest will be shown over 2 days, one for the semi-finals and one for the final. The draw for the contest was made on 23 March 2004.

Semi final will be held on Wednesday 12 May 2004 from 20:00 to 22:00 UK/Ireland (21:00 to 23:00 CET)

Final will be held on Saturday 15 May 2004 from 20:00 to 23:10 UK/Ireland (21:00 to 00:10 CET)
All 36 countries will be allow to televote in the final, including the countries who are not in the final.

For UK Viewers, the semi finals will be broadcasted on BBC3 commentator Lorraine Kelly and Paddy O'Conell and
the final will be broadcasted on BBC1 commentator as always, Terry Wogan

The winner of the previous year, the next 9 highest score, the top 10 of the qualifying rounds and also the big 4 countries (pay a lot of money to the EBU), including United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain. This means that even that the UK got nil points for 2003, they qualify automatically to the final. The contest will be over 2 days on Wednesday 12 May 2004 and Saturday 15 May 2004.

An artist cannot enter for more than one country. In 2003, Esther Hart entered the UK and Netherlands and Ich Troje entered the Poland and German competition.

All 36 countries can vote in the final, even for the countries who did not qualify for the final.
